E3 2011: Epic Games’ design director encourages industry to embrace the hacking community
Lead Gears of War dev and Epic Games’ design director Cliff Bleszinski has said that the international games industry would do well to embrace the hacking community.
Speaking to GameTrailers.com, Bleszinski was talking about the chances of seeing more user generated content options appearing in Gears of War 3 when he made the comments.
“I was on a panel with Kudo (Tsunodo, Kinect creative director), and we were talking about Kinect Fun Labs, and he was saying they’re embracing a lot of the homebrew and hacker stuff that’s going on with Kinect,” he said.
“Generally speaking when it comes to hackers, you want to embrace a lot of what they are doing instead of fighting it. I think the industry is slowly learning that.”
In the wake of recently surfaced news that hackers have managed to acquire the personal information of many Codemasters customers, as well as the recently concluded hacker debacle at Sony, the statement has taken on an even more timely air.
I think it's pretty clear he's referring to things like the hacking of kinect to allow homebrew, not the hacking of websites to steal user information...
@T
Yes he is, but the point is that the recent spate of user information theft can be traced back, in many cases, to the console industry working against homebrew.
After Epic websites got hacked ?
Do you still want to work with them?
priceless as you may want to work with them but they don't want to work with you by the looks of things.
