Global development elite rush for PS Vita

Sony’s next-gen successor to the PSP is being backed by a new wave of game studios across the globe.

Internal Sony Worldwide Studio projects will be bolstered by offerings from the likes of Rockstar, Capcom, Epic Games, Activision, Sega and EA.

UK studio Just Add Water is redeveloping Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Strangers Wrath for the new handheld, adding cross-platform cloud save support between Vita and PS3.

Capcom, meanwhile, is porting a special edition of Street Fighter X Tekken to the new system.

Namco Bandai is building a new Ridge Racer game for Vita, while Sega is creating a handheld edition of Virtual Tennis for the console.

Other studios, such as Grasshopper, Level-5, CCP Games and PopCap have pledged support for the system.

Sony is also pushing its internal studios to launch new software with the device. Wipeout, LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted are just three of Sony’s lucrative game brands that will be tied to the new handheld.

PS Vita is due for launch this year, and is expected to sell at $249 / £229 / €249
