EA throws its weight behind the co-op focused action game

Insomniac holds faith in new IP with Overstrike

Californian independent studio Insomniac is bucking industry trends by building a major new IP in the middle of the current hardware cycle.

Its new multiplatform project, called Overstrike, appears to be a third-person action title strictly focused on co-op play. The project will be published and promoted through the increasingly popular EA Partners scheme.

To what extent the game accommodates a solitary offline experience remains to be seen, though it would be a serious risk for Insomniac to bottle-neck the game as a ‘co-op only’ affair.

A release date has yet to be announced.

“Overstrike presents a unique blend of features that have long been a part of the Insomniac DNA: high powered gadgets, action-heavy gameplay, memorable characters in a deep and mysterious universe and of course a touch of humor,” said Insomniac Games founder Ted Price.

“And since this is our first multiplatform game, we’re especially excited to introduce ourselves to a new audience – one which may not have experienced our previous games.”
