Dundee university to begin several new game development modules

Students of game development are being offered a seven week course all about Maya, the ubiquitous 3D modelling tool.

A new Abertay University ‘Dare Academy’ offers students advice on Maya from the bare basics to the expert tips.

The course is expensive, at £999, but the well-respected Abertay says it is a “perfect step for anyone looking to take their passion for games further - or for continued professional development”.

The Dundee-based university is offering three additional courses, comprising of game design, games testing, and game studio lessons.

The first course starts on 18 June.

How many games companies in the UK even use Maya? With the exception of perhaps Traveller's Tales, the majority use 3ds Max.

There are many companies that use Maya for development. It has a lot going for it in the general modelling and content creation. It is favoured particularly for scripting and the ease of customisation for tools and workflow.

Personally glad to see more and more studios using Softimage in their games pipeline. By far the best package in my opinion.
