Will a new Microsoft app framework update open compatibility with the company’s console?

Microsoft’s Silverlight application framework is rumored to soon be made compatible with the Xbox 360.

According to rumors reported on by Engaget
, a new Silverlight compatibility function is to be announced at Microsoft’s MIX 11 developer event next week, with the potential for writing apps that work on both the console and on Windows Phone 7 platforms.

No details have been mentioned on how the Silverlight compatibility would work alongside the console’s existing XNA functionality.

That would be a logical & very practical business move to add Silverlight compatibility. Also, adding in a MarketPlace for Indies, a lower cost devbox, Kinect plugin functionality SDK, Xbox middleware like Unity3d, or UDK would secure Xbox360 as the dominant leader in Game Consoles.

@Sxean: That's pretty much what XNA is. Sure, UDK and Unity3D compatibility would be awesome but that's not going to happen.
Besides, most countries don't even have XNA yet.
