Dare to be Digital contest to be the focal point of three-part television show

UK broadcaster Channel 4 is to screen a three-part documentary about game development.

Called Crunchtime, the show will look at the Dare to be Digital game development contest, and will be broadcast on terrestrial TV on Sunday mornings.

Crunchtime tells the stories of fifteen teams selected to compete in the Dare competition as they strive to create a game prototype in ten weeks, with the ultimate aim of winning the BAFTA Ones to Watch award.

"Crunchtime is not only a fantastic series showcase for Dare To Be Digital; it also highlights the world class digital sector of Dundee, a sector that Channel 4 has engaged with on a number of exciting creative digital projects over the last 12 months," said Channel 4’s Media Project Manager Ian MacKenzie.

“Crunchtime is a fabulous opportunity to open up the excitement and passion within creative teams making games for a wider audience,” added Paul Durrant of Dare to be Digital co-organiser Abertay University.

“Abertay University has pioneered the provision of real world work opportunities for students and graduates, and Dare to be Digital has been our way of providing that opportunity and allowing all comers to compete at an international level and showcase their talent."

Crunchtime airs at 7.25am on Sunday March 27th, Sunday April 3rd and Sunday April 10th. Keep an eye out for Develop in the show, which contributed in its role as judge at Dare to be Digital.

Although this sounds great, The title made me think it was going to be an look into the working conditions in big studios, specifically the ones known for bad working conditions and never ending Crunch periods.
Looking forward to this all the same :)

I think it's called Crunchtime because the teams have to make a game in 10 weeks, so it is just one big Crunch.

yeah i get that, it's not a criticism on the name of the documentary, just what I expected (and hoped) the subject matter would be.
