SCE boss Kaz Hirai says PS3 hasn't reached mid-cycle yet
In keeping with Sony's ethos of a ten-year life cycle for its home hardware, Sony Computer Entertainment head Kaz Hirai has claimed that Sony isn't even strategising its next home console.
"We're not even at the halfway point [with PS3]," Hirai stated, as reported by Kotaku. "Every year, we reveal and release new features.
"That's why, we're not deliberating on a PS4 or a next generation machine, whatever you call it."

No game developer wants to rewrite their engines just yet. And it isn't clear what new technology could be available for a PS4 to make it worthwhile. They'll have a lot of ongoing R&D, though.
The question is at what point do consoles begin to stagnate and PC games gain more momentum simply because they reach a point where their advantages outweigh their inferior boxes. This obviously is driven by software, but with the ever increase of MMO developers I wonder how long it will be before the PC market share rebounds. Especially now that piracy attitudes have very much changed and digital distribution is on the bleeding edge, leaving consoles with year on decline.
Also just to add, their public attitude is very much false, I'm pretty sure Sony and Microsoft are playing media stalemate when in fact they are both working on boxes to react to the soon approaching console from Nintendo. Who already own the highest market share.
Sure they have R&D plucking away on their next entry, but the media, blogs and fan sites are the ones that started this silly "update" on their next console in the first place. All speculation. False and rumored. Like they are going to make comments about it now. Come on. There is plenty of juice in the PS3 to keep it around for a while. I think it started off with an article about the NGP being built with the PS4 in mind. Gone are those days when we get a new console every couple years. And as far as PC gaming goes, two different worlds. Gaming is just not the same from one platform to the next. Which is a good thing. I like my PC and Mac experiences to be separate from the my console experiences. Superior or not. Both can coexist.
