VIDEO: LA Noire's quantum leap in animation

Be amazed by one of the most sophisticated animation systems ever

Rockstar has at last released the latest trailer for 1940s crime thriller LA Noire, Developed at Sydney-based studio Team Bondi.

The video can be found below.

Comprised entirely from in-game footage, the trailer again demonstrates remarkable motion camera technology that lends incredible realism to the characters.

The striking facial animation is brought about by a motion-capture technology called motion scan, developed at Sydney-based Depth Analysis.

It’s said that in-game players will be able to make judgements about a character’s truthfulness simply by examining the expression on their faces.

In September the Australian Game Developer’s Association speculated that Team Bondi’s title has enjoyed one of the largest development budgets ever.

I see an evolution, hardly a quantum leap, or maybe the author has been playing a lot of c64 lately ?

The facial animation is excellent, the rest is nothing special. There is serious danger of this being an average game with a gimmick... hopefully, it won't be the case.

It's such a shame with these faces that the shading model used is so poor. You get this amazing animation, but it looks like a video projection running on a flat box. The faces are just lacking any depth whatsoever. So close, but why stick with that same ugly style from all their other recent titles?
