Canadian studio picks up job for 2K Games' sequel
Swedish outfit Starbreeze will not be developing The Darkness II, a sequel to the 2007 original that it had created for 2K Games.
Publisher 2K, a subsidiary brand of Rockstar owner Take-Two, revealed today that Canadian outfit Digital Extremes is working on the project.
The game is set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year.
Starbreeze, famous for its Chronicles of Riddick games, had a quiet 2010 following its chart-topping year prior.
In March last year EA revealed it had cancelled one of two Starbreeze deals; the first being a Jason Bourne title.
The second, codenamed project Redlime, is thought to still be in production. Last week Starbreeze announced it was hiring for more staff.
I like Starbreeze, but they have been basking in the glory of Riddick for far too long now (something RARE is also guilty of with their 90's titles).
The Darkness was okay, not a patch on Riddick, but they need to develop their own IP now, they could still become the European EPIC Games.
