Several US education institutions lend weight to international dev competition
A host of competitors and representatives from US universities will be converging on the Southern Polytechnic State University in Georgia for the third annual Global Game Jam from Friday, January 28th – Sunday January 30th.
Students from Columbus State University, Southern Polytechnic State University, the University of Georgia, Savannah College of Art and Design and the Georgia Institute of Technology will all be competing at the state-wide event as part of the larger international competition.
Georgia Game Developers Association members may also be eligible for a discounted or even free Global Game Jam registration at the Georgia event.
The Global Game Jam is a 48-hour speed-development event for people of 18 years and over which challenges team to produce a complete game within its time-span.
More information can be found at either the Global Game Jam Develop events page or official website.
Of more relevance and interest to the predominantly UK audience of Develop would be the small but growing number of UK Universities who have been taking part since the first Global Game Jam, but also what a woefully small percentage of the 40+ UK institutions that offer games courses.
Hello Mike,
Actually Develop does have a US readership to warrant this kind of coverage, especially online.
That being stated, your point about UK universities is a very fair one. Are you involved with any UK university contributions to the Global Game Jam yourself? If so, please do get in touch and let us know about it! We would love to give you some coverage as well.
There are currently six sites in England, 2 in Scotland and , 1 in Northern Ireland. We would love to have even more participate.
