New App Store sensation Cut The Rope makes 2m downloads in 3 weeks

As EA cuts, its social firm Chillingo sells 2m

While EA has administered another seasonal round of layoffs across its retail-focused studios, its bite-sized digital divisions continue to thrive.

Chillingo, the iPhone game publisher that EA acquired this month, has sold over two million copies of Cut The Rope in just three weeks.

"Our new partnership with EA enables us to expand [the game’s] prospects, visibility and reach to make more of an impact than ever before,” said Chillingo general manager Chris Byatte.

Cut The Rope, developed by Chillingo developer ZeptoLab, currently sits second in the Top Paid charts on Apple’s App Store – just behind Chillingo’s former studio partner Rovio, the developer of Angry Birds.

“Now with their acquisition by EA, we see more growth opportunities available for us in the future,” said Efim Voinov, CTO of ZeptoLab.

Cut the Rope remains the fastest selling title on the App Store to date, says EA, having hit 1 million sales within 10 days.
