Changes afoot for Games For Windows Live

Online PC games portal to be streamlined

The Games For Windows Live Marketplace will be revamped next month.

As well as an aesthetic redesign, the service will be receiving a host of new features, including an Xbox Live-style Deal of the Week, pre-order incentives and more, according to Joystiq.

Microsoft group product manager Peter Orullian also told the site that his team will be constantly adding much-requested functions such as a ratings system, and that Xbox 360 owners will be able to spend their MS Points on the new GfW Live Marketplace.

“The store is really going to be a destination for games for PC gamers,” he said. “My focus [is to] evolve the store and help gamers find the games they really care about.”

Did they ever sit down and think about what PC gamers actually want from a service rather than trying to expand their Xbox brand onto other platforms?

GFWL has totally broken several games on my machine. It wont patch, it wont log in from windows. Everyone I know has had similar problems.

"adding much-requested functions such as a ratings system" really? I'm pretty sure the most requested thing would be to make it work, to remove the huge fonts and panels that were designed obviously for the Xbox and sloppily ported (I wont even mention when it asked me the press A!), and the terrible overlays that don't play well with the games they are hacked into.

I do wonder if they were actually deliberately damaging and diluting the PC experience to just force people to buy an Xbox?
