Ninja Theory scores Capcom Devil May Cry deal

Third major work-for-hire project for the Cambridge outfit

Growing UK independent studio Ninja Theory has signed a major deal with Capcom to develop the next Devil May Cry title.

The Cambridge based outfit will continue to specialise in building third-person action titles, with the DMC game following on from the Enslaved and Heavenly Sword projects.

It means that in the last five years Ninja Theory has built business relationships with SCEE, Namco Bandai and now Capcom.

Yet, with the studio remaining independent of its publishers, the group is yet work on its own self-owned IP.

The deal continues Capcom’s collaborative operation with Western developers, a ongoing policy brought to light when the publisher’s star exec Keiji Inafune famously claimed Japanese game development “is dead”.

The DMC project was described by Capcom as being a ‘collaborative’ effort between the two groups.

Congratulations on such a big IP signing, I'm a massive fan of Heavenly Sword and can't wait to get my hands on Enslaved. It was only recently reading an article about how Ninja Theory was 50/50 to close a few years back, thank god you didn't as the future is bright!

I met the guys at Ninja Theory a couple of years back and they seem to be a tight unit and capable of belting out great action game (Heavenly Sword being so popular).

Any yet looking at this new re-hash of DMC (and being a fan of the series) i can't help but wonder what they are thinking with this black-haired, crack-addicted teenage Dante!
