This is damaging for Zynga, but also the industry as a whole. Why pay for virtual goods if the operator can pull them away at any moment? Maybe if this was some start-up with just one or two games under it's belt you wouldn't be surprised - but Zynga is the fattest kid on the block.

i asked this question at the recent Casual Connect conference in Seattle: as more and more games close down because they're not hitting ridiculously high DAU/MAU numbers, aren't we educating players to be wary of purchasing virtual goods?

i think a far better strategy here is to sell the game to the highest bidder and let him continue to run it on different servers, provided they don't have to expose any of their code or tools. Or maybe partner with a trusted clearing house to manage the "dead" worlds?

As a player who is about to be deserted by the developer of one of his favorite games, let me say this. Zynga won't see me in Frontierville, Vampires or any other game they have developed. They are just plain stupid if they think some other unrelated game can take the place of Street Racing. Zynga has taken what was a premier game and run it into the ground, but unless the company reverses its decision to shut down our game, I'LL NEVER PLAY ANOTHER ZYNGA GAME AS LONG AS I LIVE. And I have hundreds of friends who feel the same way. We have invested too much time and energy just to have it go to waste. Furthermore, I am one of many players who contributed to their advertising revenue by responding to offers in order to earn favor points to use in the game, and received an inbox full of unsolicited commercial email as a result. Some of my friends have spent hard-earned money on the game as well. Probably enough money that their shutting down the game and walking away amounts to GRAND THEFT. I won't play games run by thieves, and neither will my friends. I sincerely hope to be part of a class-action lawsuit against the company.

BYE BYE ZYNGA.....Mark Pincus and co. can kiss my behind.....i am probably the longest server on street racing via FB and have seen nothing but thieving and lies from ZYNGA....i myself lost everything on offer on street racing 3 times,robbed of a huge amount of stat points (strength) and all cash obtained....i have witness numerous amounts of glitches any time ZYNGA made a new offer or made any kind of change to the game....i now know of quite a few people that spent huge amounts of real dollars to buy these (for a short time only receive 10% discout)offers only to lose it all not long after....i sent in a whole bunch of complaints only to be told "we apologize for the delay,my name is such and such and i don't have the tools to make any changes in your game so i am forwarding your complaint to a higher level"....after 8 weeks,i was told it is an automatic reply and you won't get a real response....so i got abusive toward them and received a response a short time after requesting my link so they could have a look at my account.....a short time after i receive an email telling me "we have investigated your claim,we have checked everything and it all seems to be in order,nothing was touched by us"....so then i got very abusive and was told "we are sorry you are not enjoying your game,to delete your game,go to application setup,delete application and block it and wait 90 days"....i played street racing all this time whilst my missus did afternoon shifts and my kids were sleeping....nothing will replace the countless hours i have spent on the application so i wish a speedy end to all ZYNGA games and empty pockets to it's owners....hey mark pincus.....BITE ME!!!!

Zynga makes me sick to my stomach - I played Street Racing for a year and a half, and I was one of the crazies that actually put real money into the game - all told I probably spent almost $2K, because I had the money to spend. Looking back, maybe I should have spent that bar hopping with my friends - would have been a better long-term investment.

I sent an email to Zynga, asking them to instead consider crediting me for Vampire Wars, another Zynga game that I USED TO play instead of stupid Frontierville. People who play tell me its slow, glitchy and too dependent on the participation of other players - couple that with the fact that FB admins are now being NAZIs when it comes to adding new people (I can't add anymore than 4 people a day without getting blocked), and you have a recipe for a disastrous excuse of a game.

It was a reasonable compromise, and I got shot down - what a surprise! It was Frontierville or nothing for me. So, you Zynga scumbags, it's nothing for you now. I'm not playing Vampire Wars or any other Zynga game again - they are all rip-offs of other games anyway - FarmTown = FarmVille, Fish World = Fishville, etc.
Despite the economic conditions we face in the world today, I hope you suffer an EPIC failure Zynga, starting with the biggest piece of scum, Mark Pincus.

I plan on contacting my credit card company and see about my dispute rights, since Zynga's POS ToS doesn't supersede consumer protection law.

BTW, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you suffer a spectacular financial loss as a result of the ongoing lawsuit against you.

I am not sure were Zynga get its understanding from or as that matter why they are even still running games.. I have been playing S/R for a few years now, and have watched alot of crew members including my self lose every thing to be told there is nothing we can do to help you.

Most of the players of Street Racing have spent numerous hours playing a game that they really love, only to have Zynga pull the plug without a care for who they have robbed and obtained money via fraudulent and dishonest trading practices.
This is just another typical example of Zynga and their crappy attitude and they get away with all there antics because they take the line of thinking "They are GOD" well I for one would love to see this company have a class action Lawsuit brought against them for obtaining monetary gains by deception and as a result send the company into liquidation for their dishonest practices.
Players of Street Racing are based all over the world and it make it harder for those outside the USA to take part in any action against Zynga.

How would the owners of Zynga were told by one of their supplyers that a product that they,Zynga had invested millions of dollars in to keep that product comming their way, was going to be dicontinued and that the supplyer didn't care how much money was spent and that no refunds would be given and that no approate subistute would be given. I have been playing the Street Racing game for just over 2 and a half years on facebook, and in that time i have made some awesome friends and crew-mates. During that time the game has been glitched in so many ways, the worse was when players (including myself) was getting rolled back in levels, and in the process losing cars, and skill points ( i have lost thousands and thousands of points every time i got rolled back), and yet we still continued to play as the game was still active. My guess as to why the idiots at zynga have decided to pull the plug on street racing is because they cannot maintain the game any longer, their programmers cannot fix the problems with the game, i have read that zynga are making huge profits and yet they cannot even spend $$$ to fix a few problems - it is because they are lazy, they have decided that they have made enough money from this game and no longer have any further use for it.
i have blocked most of the zynga games so far and will continue to block the remaining.
I do hope that the street racing game stays on, if zynga decide not to continue with it then i hope someone will take over and make it better...

Street racing is the only online game i have ever played but after my experiences with zynga i am at a loss as to why i kept playing then i realised it was the friendships i made ......it was a great game and with the demise of the news feed and comments it has all gone just wish we could take it back 12 months and continue from there with some updates would have been good ZYNGA BANNED IN MY HOUSE FOREVER

This is such a mistake zynga. SR is one of your top played games in facebook. If you totally abolish it a lot will quit playing all of your other games. I have observed this from my friends making their primary pictures the "boycott zynga logo".

Well all the comments above are all true and I agree with all of them when street racing is removed so will all zynga games on my computer. Street racing was my first game on facebook and when it is removed so will all other zynga games. I also have been through three roll backs and have been compensated once only to start again, I too have 1898 crew in this game and am level 1678. The selling of then deleting of virtual goods paid for "by customers with real money" by Zynga should be considered a fraudulent activity ! Zynga should be held legally and financially accountable for this criminal behaviour.
As soon as they delete the virtual goods I have paid for with large amounts of real $$$ it is theft and should be treated as such !

I agree with what everyone is saying. There problems with the game, we had stuff taken away and never returned and I have been removing Zynga apps and blocking them to show support to the great people I have met thanks to THIS game. SR was the first and so far only game that allowed to me open up to others and make friends. My Dad introduced to me the game and even though it was slow at first once he suggested me to his crew and and those crews had others add me I started to have fun with it. I agree that Zynga deserves all the worst things possible to happen to them but I do want to give one thank you to all the fellow crew members who made THIS game worth playing, no matter the ups and downs we always had each others backs...I hope to keep many of you as friends and perhaps we can find a another game to call ours...

Well, Street Racing was one of the best games on Facebook and it is sad how this genre of online games is fading away. First Mobsters deleted Overdrive and now Zynga is removing Street Racing. No one in the car fandom really cares about farmville or frontierville. It was the motors and the madness of taking sides in automotive challenges that we are after. Street Racing was the first game I played on Facebook and it's still the only game I play consistently. Even after several roll backs and the loss of quite some money, I didn't quit.
Now Zynga is stopping this game. It's dissapointing, but it doesn't come as a surprise to me. Their players/customers have never been important to Zynga. Everybody should start wondering what game will be next.

I have not been playing the game as long as many commenting before me, but have gained some fantastic friends and respect for how the game has brought so many, so close. I've seen no other like it. These people have stayed true to SR and Zynga through all the problems you have dished out. Even after the last huge rollback when 75% of the racers lost everything. I thought for sure that was the end. Instead of giving up on you then, they banned together to help each other get back on their wheels something I didn't think you deserved.
For nearly a year there has been no upgrades. Instead you stripped the game down little by little. You regained their hope of upgrades by offering cars back up for sale even answering messages stating you were working on *new and exciting* improvements. They stayed, they played, they paid.

Now you have the gall to throw up a notice offering to play some other game that isn't even close, instead of offering some compensation to those who have dished out their hard earned money. Adding insult to injury, you add new cars to buy after the announcement to reel in the innocent new players that don't know any better? That's pretty sickening. But I believe in Karma and it will come back to you.
I have played almost every game you have to offer. One by one they have been dropped because of the constant problems. MW is my last but heading to the trash bin soon with all the constant pop-ups begging for money and outrageous upgrades. It only makes the games less appealing to play. You will never get a cent from me again.
What gets me the most of all this is your disrespect for my loyal friends, who have provided those gourmet lunches and game rooms to your employees, I read about earlier in the year....to make happy??. It's a job, not a day care center. You are suppose to provide for the customer. How about putting that money into working on getting SR back up and running instead. They can pack baloney sandwiches. Do something right for once and reconsider the closing of this game. Your reputation could use it...and if profit is your excuse. You make plenty on the others to write it off. All my time has now been wasted... Every Game Zynga has on Facebook is FLAWED....I am sick of having to refresh all the time !!!!!! Gifts get lost and as we who play SR have lost thousands of cars,properties etc... We trusted them to look after our Stats and they just took everything away.It was bad enough some players were nasty but the makers are 1000 times worse !!!!! The unyielding level of authority Zynga has over its paying customers was exposed this week, as fans of social network game Street Racing continue to protest an unexplained decision to abolish the game.

Those fans, having together invested untold amounts of real money into the Facebook game, have been told that Zynga will be deleting Street Racing from its servers on August 2nd.

If I said I was very disappointed with Zynga's decision to close Street Racing down it would be the worlds biggest understatement !!

Played Street racing for over a year had countless roll backs where you lose all the cars you gained, properties bought and races completed! When you e-mail there support the quickest response i got was having my stuff returned in 8 weeks! This required many e-mails constantly repeating what you said the first time. Basically my point is this, there are a large number of people like me, who liked the game and interaction from it and all Zynga have done over the past year or so is kill the game. Why not do what the have done with other games and invest a bit of time and effort to fix the problems and develop the game. Well when SR stops i will stop playing Mafia wars and alot of other seem to be of the same opinion

I have played this game for over 2 years and have made some amazing friends. It is a disgrace that Zynga has decided to shut it down because they don't want to maintain it the way it should be. I will never, ever get involved in playing another one of their games it that happens.

Initially I spent somewhere in the area of AUD$ 300 with Zynga. Now I f I bought something and brike it I think that is fair enough, but Street Racing is NOT broken, so how the hell can they take it away from me.

been an avid player of street racing for 18 mths now , sometimes playing up to 18 hrs a day ,I have met so many good friends through this game and it would be a great shame to just to pull the plug on such a good popular game ,,I and many of my crew have been reset numurous times dispite this we still play and for what ??because we love the game,, ZYNGA please listen to us the customer and reconsider keeping the game

Knowing that most of these games are beta versions which are only test versions and that the owner/owners can pull the games at anytime is the primary reason I DO NOT spend my HARD EARNED money on any of them! I feel sorry for anyone who does and is now going to lose their investment not to mention the hundreds of hours some of us have invested in the game alone. As long as these games are around I will play the ones I want to play and still only invest in time and not buy anything. These are only games. Some of you might have formed internet friendships and sorry you will lose them. Just keep this example in mind before you pay for credits or pay for anything game related.

I thinks it's an insult by Zynga to scrap their most popular game on Facebook in favour of a rubbish cowboys/ farm type game, and then email me to say all the money I've spent in the last 90 days will be converted to credits on their new game. I've tried their new game and it is rubbish! I'd rather have my money back thank you. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing Street Racing over the last 12 months. I particularly like the customising of the cars (although they are virtual) but that will be gone next Monday.

Like any popular entity, its the people who built and made it happen. For the multitude of players who made them, we can also make them fall.

Zynga has a great game on its hands, and all they had to do was keep introducing new cities, ala Mafia Wars, but they decide to close up shop instead and infuriate probably a million people. Zynga needs to get a change of leadership that has a clue of how to provide long term customer satisfaction.

Street Racing is one of the best games i played on facebook,it`s been a while since i started playing it and i was amazed how great it was. I earned great friends along the way,spent year and a half playing it every day for couple hours, and when i heard that game will be abandoned by developers i was completely disappointed and felt cheated like all of us.

I have been playing for a long time now. I have made some really good friends through the game. I enjoy teaming up with people. Instead of ending the game, they should update it like they do with other games. Somehow they have forgotten the people devoted to street racing and to improve the game. What is their problem? To all the people who spend money to them, don't do it on any other game! What is to stop them from doing the same on any other game? I can only think that money has prompted this action by them. Basically they are stealing from us and that is a crime! I would not be surprised if there was a world wide civil suit against them. Surely there are lawyers playing the game. Speak up with the law and protect us and get them to fix the game!

They got rid of Space Wars, Football Wars and Heroes & Villains. Hardly anyone I knew played Football Wars. All of these PHP games are the same.

I stopped playing PackRat when Alamofire changed the way their gameplay was done so that players' cards that were 'stashed' in friends' inactive packs were no longer available to them. Which means that I lost at least $100 in virtual cards. So, they too stole my money and I vowed not to play their game anymore...yet people are still getting suckered into playing it. People, virtual goods aren't worth your hardearned money unless it's helping a cause. At least with Playfish virtual goods in their Pet Society, they sell "premium items" that in part help the World Wildlife Fund.

I just may play other zynga games but if I do it will be with the sole purpose of trying to screw zynga as hard as they have screwed their customers. For now my efforts will be to remove any association with their apps and strongly recommend friends to do the same.

The good thing about facebook is that it is not limited to people around the block. It has global reaches. All I need to do is convince two friends and it they do the same it will not take long before no one plays their games.

One thing to learn from this is that zynga has proven that they cannot be trusted in any shape or form. They have proved this a few times already by stealing credits, stealing items from people in the game and stealing other aspects from players. All of this theft was under the guise of "oops out upgrade didn't work" and "here are a couple of trinkets to satisfy you". This attitude extends beyond the game of street racing. If it has not affected a particular game just give it time until zynga's true colors shine through.

It is unimaginable the amount of complete and utter disrespect that this company shows people. For this reason any effort I put towards zynga will be nothing but negative and I would encourage any player of their game to treat them in the same manner.

As for the investors listed on zynga's page, you are not without fault. You share the same amount of guilt as zynga. I would suggest you pull out before your reputation is also tarnished further.

Like everyone here I also have spent a significant amount of time and money on this application. I also am just as angry that the company has shown such a disreguard for their customers. What I however cannot say is that I am suprised. Months of emails and writing ticket after ticket because of various glitches in different apps and the best response you do get (if you get one at all) is an automated one telling you that your issue has been escalated to a higher level and blah blah blah. You get used to silence from them. Then finally after the last SR rollback I got a response from a real live person, who told me the company was sorry for the issue and they were working hard to resolve it so that it wouldn't occur again. Gave me most of my items back and stated that they were working on SR to get it updated and would have some new items available soon.....so how do we go from "hey, we're updating this and making it better" to "screw you all we're taking the money and running haha". Oh, and please play one of our other apps and give us money for stuff there too so we can put the screws to you some more and then take that progress too. How is this guy still making money? Most people that do that sort of stuff end up eating their teeth don't they?????

Mark Pincus is completely without mores, and believes his own shite doesn't smell. They rewrote the Terms of Service to gives players no rights to their virtuals goods and currency, and put a 16 year old girl in charge of the online forum, who has been banning players who have the temerity to complain. I know this because I got banned yesterday. Zynga is no more than a fancy shell game asking players for their credit card numbers, for the illusion of goods offered. They are called virtual goods for a reason. They only exist on Zynga's servers, and only until Mark throws a switch. I quit playing Street Racing last year, because it was obvious that Zynga never intended to bother beta testing the game. Therefore, I can only assume they'll never beta test any game they publish, so I blocked all of them.

It's interesting to see people commenting about the credibility of Zynga. They take the realm of greedy assholes to a whole new level - maybe that can be a new Zynga game. They would lie, cheat and steal to stay on top and once again they have proven it.

So let's dispense with thinking that these people have any credibility whatsoever. They hire automatons, feed them 3 meals a day so they can keep them there for 12-14 hours every day. Do a walk through, the place is 21st century slave labor. Not kidding.

Zynga has no problem taking money from children and this is another example how they steal money from them. You pay for something that you will never posses, never own and they can shut down the game when ever they want. Nobody bother reading the agreement you click to get access to the game. Once you have paid them you have no more claim to the money. So they can just keep setting up new games and then just shut them down and keep the money.
I will never pay for a product like this, especially since the product is so crappy designed like Vampire Wars.
