Jagex founders recognised for outstanding contribution
The Jagex founders and brothers Andrew and Paul Gower were tonight recognised for their incredible success in the games industry, after being presented with the Industry Legend prize at the Develop Awards.
The pair, who created the influential and critically acclaimed MMO RuneScape, took to the stage as their role in conceiving the Cambridge studio that currently stands as the UK's largest developer was recognised.
Initially established in 1999 and officially founded in 2001 by the Gowers, Jagex remains fiercely independent. Famed for its unique approach to proprietary tech, the company has moved to tackle external publishing as well as internal development, and has also met with great success through its FunOrb gaming portal.
Only today the studio, which the Gowers still have a huge creative and practical involvment with, announced its latest new release, sci-fi MMO Stellar Dawn.
The award will mean a great deal to the Gowers, who began their careers after a life long interest in making games, when Andrew started making Atari ST games in 1995.
The Gowers continue to feature in the famed Times Rich List.
The newly-announced MMO is "Stellar Dawn", not "Stellar Assault". :)
Andrew actually started making games when he was 7, he used to play D&D with his brothers, and play on the Atari.
Andrew is also a Java programmer, and so is Paul I guess.
Actually Andrew didnt play D&D until after Jagex was founded, where a staff member organized a game to show what the potential of Runescape could really be.
Paul cant code for shit. Runescript was invented because Paul was too stupid to code in a normal scripting language.
THEY DONT DESERVE THIS RUNESCAPE SUCKS SO MUCH THEY JUST LURE YOU IN AND THEN YOU REALIZE THE ECONOMY STINKS AND THE GAME STINKS. PLUS THE 7 DAY TRIAL IS ONLY AVAIABLE TO NEW ACCOUNTS NOT FORMER MEMS AN ITS MORE LIKE A 7DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE DINCE THEY REQUIRE A CREDIT CARD AND WILL RENEW UNLESS YOU CANCEL
IF YOU BAN ME FOR THIS I CAN SUE BECAUSE IM PROTECTED BY FREEDOM OF SPEECH
@Torterra275 Your an idiot. For one, were the caps necessary? It just makes you look like you want attention. Also, if you don't like the way the 7 day free trial works they could just take it away. Would that solve it? Last, you can't sue. They could probably counter sue since you would be wasting there time.
On a related note, go to the Stellar Dawn website and sign up for the beta!!!
