‘I assure you that piracy is coming to consoles’

Develop 2010: Console hacks are inevitable, says InstantAction CEO Louis Castle

Though the PC market is often seen as the biggest victim of piracy, industry veteran Louis Castle has today issued a warning that no game platform is immune to hacks.

”Piracy is not exclusive to PCs, I assure you it is coming onto consoles,” said Castle, speaking today at the fifth annual Develop Conference.

And though systems such as the PS3 have managed to fend off the practice of piracy, Castle believes that it is merely a matter of time before the barriers are broken.

”I used to be a hacker in my very early days, so I know anything that can be made can be hacked,” added Castle, who made the prediction in a Develop keynote address entitled ‘Traditional Games Breaking Into Social Networks’.

Castle is the CEO of InstantAction, as well as a member of GDC advisory board, and an industry veteran of nearly thirty years.

Ok so the PS3 is holding out as long as it can but Xbox cancelled loads of live accounts last year because of suspected piracy and the PSP and DS have both been revaged by piracy since they were released. and that's only this gen, what about all the piracy on the older systems?

-Name?
-Louis Castle.
-Chosen specialist subject?
-Stating the bleedin' obvious.

Such vicious attacks! The journo quoted one sentence & you launch a barrage of insults against the speaker, who incidentally was speaking about "Traditional Games Breaking Into Social Networks"

And you complain about not being taken seriously!

Games for the 360 and PC almost always appear for illegal download for the 360 platform about a week before the PC. A simple search of torrent sites shows this. No copy protection, no NoDVDs, no checking for phone-homes... This has happened for ages (the original Xbox was famous for easy piracy) and will continue to happen.
