Rare ditches gold logo for new look

As the eminent UK studio celebrates 25 years in the industry

UK studio Rare has undergone a facelift as it turns 25, resplendent with four new logos.

“Both Rare and the games industry have seen massive changes over the past 25 years, and right now it feels as if both we and the industry are continuing to evolve at an ever-increasing pace,” said studio head Mark Betteridge.

The developer, famous for building numerous games of global standing, will shortly mark twenty five years in the industry.

Betteridge added: “With this landmark anniversary coming up, and knowing that we have a really exciting future ahead, we felt now was the time to have a new image more in keeping with an innovative and creative entertainment company which aspires to be around for at least the next 25 years!”

The four logos can be found below.

Rare recently announced it is to open a new Birmingham studio, which will be specifically used for usability testing, contract work and art production.

Some of Rare’s standout work includes GoldenEye, Donkey Kong Country, Blast Corps, Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct. The studio was recently tasked with designing  customisable avatars for the New Xbox Experience, following its work on Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.

Rare is set to deliver a design keynote on making games for Natal at July’s Develop Conference.

The studio’s creative director George Andreas will speak in a session called ‘The Future IS Controller-Free Games and Entertainment’.

Logos look rather retro to me.

Would look nicer if the grey letters were changed to a different colour, however. Something brighter!

the logo“s change is good, but we (the gamers) want the old good games (killer instinct, battletoads, a good perfect dark, etc)
