Creative Assembly returns to sports genre

Unannounced project in development at Brisbane outfit

Sega-owned developer Creative Assembly is looking to branch out from its successful Total War series by developing a next-gen sports title.

According to a job vacancy advert in circulation, the UK headquartered company says it is “currently seeking a passionate and creative lead gameplay programmer for our upcoming next-gen sports title”.

The project is being worked on at the developer’s Australian studio, which was established in Brisbane from 2002.

Creative Assembly recently released the latest edition of its RTS series with Napoleon: Total War.

The group recently won a GAME BAFTA for its work on Empire: Total War, picking up the prize for best strategy game.

Not exactly branching out, more like returning to their roots. Creative Assembly were known for their sports games before their Total War franchise. Can't remember which games exactly, iirc they did ports of some EA Sports games way back.

Creative Assembly not making Sports Title

Hello,

Kieran here from the Creative Assembly.

I'd just like to clarify that Creative Assembly are not working on a sports title.

SEGA's Australian studio are working on their own project of which we are wholly independent.

Our (CA UK) PC Team remain dedicated to Total War, and our console team are busy on a major, as yet unannounced title, and it has nothing to do with sports.

I can say no more lest someone at SEGA shoot me. ;)

Hope that clarifies things.

Kind regards,
Kieran
