EA: West and Zampella ‘a stunning opportunity’

Publisher overjoyed with signing the Infinity Ward founders

Electronic Arts has revealed its delight in signing a deal with Infinity Ward co-founders Vince Zampella and Jason West – with the firm stating that the coup offers a “stunning opportunity”.

Today a new twist in the Activision row emerged, with both West and Zampella establishing Respawn Entertainment – a new independent studio that has signed a multi-year publishing deal with EA.

“It has a certain irony to it, but the fact that they were in this situation was a stunning opportunity for us,” said EA Games label president Frank Gibeau.

West and Zampella have yet to discuss future plans for Respawn, but the group told The LA Times that their new title will be of “huge, summer blockbuster” scale, and that the group may, perhaps, expand their remit to films, comic books and other media.

"We have learned the hard way," said Zampella, "that the best way to ensure the integrity and quality of your work and make sure the fans get what they deserve is to own the intellectual property."
