Tokyo event sees MGS creator predict the death of the console in front of SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano
Hideo Kojima has joined the list of industry execs that foresee the sector turn away from its tradition of console systems.
And the Metal Gear Solid series creator believes that the so-called death of consoles will follow from the a rise in cloud-like computing technology.
“In the near future, we'll have games that don't depend on any platform,” Kojima told attendees at a Tokyo-based MGS event.
“Gamers should be able to take the experience with them in their living rooms, on the go, when they travel – wherever they are and whenever they want to play."

Isn't this like saying "soon there will be no need for Blu-Ray players because movie buffs should be able to watch films wherever they are etc..."?
This guy more than anyone should remember the universal format failure that was MSX.
One device plays all will never happen, if that was the secret, we would have one console supporting multiple dev studios years ago.
I see no reason for an entertainment device aimed at gaming to be any different to an entertainment device aimed at movies.
It seems all this talk of clouds, is bringing the cuckoos out of the woodwork.
Games have almost reached a point where graphics needn't be any better. A casual gamer will not notice major differences in an 800x600 screen of Uncharted 2/Heavy Rain's environment art and a game from 10 years in the future. They won't even care.
As soon as the cheapest PC (by PC I'm including every iPad-type thing and in-browser gaming that will be around) can run Uncharted 2 quality graphics on the cheapest CPU's available consoles will cease to have a reason to exist (to provide great graphics at a cheap price).
Smart developers will stick, and only make games of CryEngine 3 graphic levels and release them on PC-like devices only.
