Source: Staff cuts at Rebellion's Oxford HQ [Update]

Up to 20 gone from main studio; Meanwhile troubled Derby studio presumed closed

Longstanding UK developer Rebellion has made a small number of staff at its Oxford HQ redundant, a source close to the matter has claimed.

Our source says that up to 20 Oxford-based developers could be handed their notice. [Update: A Rebellion representative has confirmed the cuts, though said the layoffs were "nowhere near" as big as twenty.]

It is also thought that Rebellion has all but confirmed the closure of its Derby studio to staff internally, which faced the axe earlier in the year, with all staff put on consultancy.

Representatives for the developer could not clarify the nature of the staff cuts at the time of going to press - although we are still seeking confirmation.

In January it was revealed that Rebellion’s Derby outfit entered a consultancy period – with staff under threat of possible redundancies.

Two weeks ago the developer's co-founder and CEO, Jason Kingsley, said that no-one has stepped up to buy the offices as a going concern.

Maybe they can take their ill gotten gains from the AvP2010 fiasco and live off that for awhile.

Being able to rip millions of people off and not go to jail is pretty kickass. What more do they want?

I tested AvP for Sega and I was quite shocked to see the Alien campaign get completed in 20 minutes on the hardest difficulty. The game doesn't have any content, its a rather poor multiplayer game with a story element tacked on.
