Fuzzyeyes Studio ‘at the brink of closure’

Fuzzyeyes Studio ‘at the brink of closure’

Edge of Twilight project said to be cancelled

Australian developer Fuzzyeyes Studio has been shut down or had its workforce cut to a skeleton crew, rumours suggest.

The South Brisbane-based studio – founded in 2001 – is thought to have had as many as 50 employees before rumours of staff cuts surfaced.

News site Kotaku, citing anonymous sources, reports that the team’s current project, an RPG by the name of Edge of Twilight, may have been cancelled.

A representative for the studio could not be contacted at the time of going to press. Meanwhile, both the Edge of Twilight and Fuzzyeyes websites have been replaced by ‘coming soon’ holding pages.

Fuzzyeyes had recently made an “amicable negotiation” with Edge Games’ Tim Langdell over – of course – trademark disputes, though no details of the arrangement were made.

That game was announced in August 2008, and had been scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 this year, reportedly to be published by SouthPeak Interactive.

Develop has contacted various parties on the matter.

Another one bites the dust

Well the Australian games industry sure seems to be feeling the pinch. First Transmission and now Fuzzyeyes. Good luck to all those guys and gals involved.

This happened almost 2 months ago. They went down to single figures in staff numbers and they were working for free.

Krome have also got rid of 30 or so staff, EA Melbourne has just got rid of around 30% of their staff, and a few months ago Red Tribe went bust as well.

Sad, sad times.

@TMK

Well, I certainly didn't realise the industry over there was in such decline. I've always felt that it was always a little optimistic to think that Oz could become a real development hub in the global picture, but that doesn't stop it being very sad.

That said, one door closes another opens and i'm sure the remaining studios in Oz will get their pick of the talent being let go. Blatant plug here, but I'm a talent scout for the industry here in the UK. If any of the guys and gals who have been caught up in this mess would be interested in a relocate to the UK or Europe I have an extensive client list and consequently bags of top jobs on currently. Drop me an email at alexander@creativepersonnel.co.uk and i'll do my utmost to assist you during these tough times.
