Studio head talks of “doing something different” with standard fight controls
Rare studio head Mark Betteridge has strongly indicated that a new Killer Instinct game could be developed for Natal.
Betteridge told Multiformat games magazine Games TM that the studio wants to break new ground if it is to develop a new Killer Instinct title.
“Street Fighter IV looked great and they’ve done a great job, and I’m a big fan of those products, but with KI we want to do something different rather than go back into that arena,” he said.
“It’s about timing, and it’s about the opportunity creatively and gameplay-wise that it would offer… I think it’s about doing something different than with a conventional controller.”
George Andreas, head of design at Rare, went on to amplify Betteridge’s suggestions, after claiming that the studio would focus on making a Killer Instinct game for “the masses”.
Rumours of a new Killer Instinct project have floated for over ten years. No such projects have materialised.
well this is the worst news ive heard in a while, sounds like the fighting game equivalent to wii fit, aimed at kids and casual gamers
not to mention rare havent made a good game since the N64 was around
I'm really looking forward to seeing what a great company like Rare is able to do with the unique abilities of Natal. I Loved both Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts & Kameo, so they obviously still have the talent from the N64 days.
2010 is going to be a wonderful year for gamers with all these developments and the number of great companies backing Natal.
Is this real? I mean, seriously Rare. It is so sad to see a great franchise like KI getting on the Natal marketing fail-train, because that's what this is, a stupid move to give hype to the casual aimed Natal. It's been more than 10 years waiting a worthy successor of KI and this is the best you can give us? We and KI deserve better Rare.

Come on now, the game's existence is a solid rumor at best and it is already called a stupid move?
As a KI enthusiast, I for one am happy with the news and will be curious to see how they manage to translate the series DNA onto Natal.
