CURRENT 3.0 platform allows players to download, install, play and patch software
Solid State Networks (SSN) is making significant changes to its digital publishing platform by making the service free for developers.
The CURRENT 3.0 publishing platform allows players to download, install and launch games on, as well as administer patches.
The free version, according to SSN, will allow devs to “provide players with a quality user experience while acquiring games and updates.”
The company is hoping that this free model will be its loss-leader, as additional features can be purchased on top of the free model.
Those features include “robust delivery solutions such as hybrid CDN/P2P” and patching optimizations. A dynamic web content add-on ca also be purchased for the portal.
“We are pleased to provide developers with a robust solution that they can deploy quickly to enhance the game acquisition experience for their players – and do it without impacting their existing budgets,” stated Rick Buonincontri, SSN CEO.
SSN? Never heard of them. Care to explain who they are, Develop?
Understandable, they’re a pretty young company.
SSN, essentially, sells publishing tech to developers that want to make online games.
Google solidstatenetworks and you’ll find their About page, which features blurbs such as the one below.
“Given our team’s unique experiences with game development (among other areas) we understand the time and resource constraints that are typically associated with making and releasing games. We also understand the technical challenges these limitations present when it comes to developing your own online game publishing solutions. This is why we adhere to the most stringent technical requirements demanded by some of the most experienced game developers.”
“Further to that, we designed the software to be far more robust compared to most in-house solutions for online game publishing.”
Hope that helps Marcus.
