Square Enix’s new PSP push confirmed

Publisher to release digital PSPgo games; Minis a possibility

Square Enix is the next company to join the growing number of developers and publishers pledging their commitment to Sony’s PSPgo handheld and, it is likely, Sony’s new Minis service.

Speaking to Develop, German ratings board USK confirmed that Square Enix had submitted a game for classification back in early August.

That game is Crystal Defenders, a Tower Defence title published digitally across the PlayStation Network, WiiWare, iPhone and XBLA.

A Siliconera report was the first to suggest that Crystal Defenders will arrive as a Minis title; Sony's new bite-sized PSP games selling at small prices.

Crystal Defenders was originally released for mobile phones under the name Crystal Guardians; testament to the game’s small file size.

When approached by Develop, Square Enix could not confirm whether Crystal Defenders was going to be a digital title or Minis title – a decision which would clearly impact on its retail price.

I'd like to see them bring some of their other mobile phone titles to the PSPgo such as Before Crisis. That would be amazing.
