DCMS’ letter to Tiga and ELSPA available now
Further evidence that the UK government is listening to its games industry emerged earlier today, with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport asking the industry to provide evidence for a culturally based tax break system.
That letter you can find on Develop, by clicking here.

So, how exactly is this progress? More dithering from a broken government.
If I am reading correctly the letter, it seems that TIGA did not explain (enough) what were:
- the current issues faced by the game industry
- how a tax break would help to resolved these issues.
Also, the MP is asking how a cultural tax relief who help more specifically. Once again, it seems that the only argument given by TIGA was "we need it" (without any specific detail).
The whole letter tend to suggest that no good quality argument with given to support TIGA's case.
Here, you have two (2) solutions:
- MP of parliament are dumb (I doubt that)
- TIGA did not find any good argument to support their case.
At least, ELSPA did succeed in pushing for PEGI as a standard in the UK and it seems they did a much better job.
I am wondering if TIGA is representing correctly the UK industry (at least, in France, the equivalent lobby did a much better job).
