Sydney’s bloated twelve-day film festival punctured by serious games discussion
International creative industry think-tank X Media Lab (XML) is now set to host a serious games development show at the upcoming Sydney Film Festival in Australia.
The Film Festival – which opened on June 3 and runs until June 14 – will now include Serious Games Lab, a two-day showcase of educational and documentary game projects from around the world.
Each serious game project will be judged by a panel of industry experts, while finalists will be granted a A$15,000 award to continue developing their projects, and the winning game will receive A$325,000 towards the project, serious cash needed for full-scale deployment of young ideas.
X Media Lab will also run a serious games conference the day prior, which will see luminaries from the sector including The Inspiracy president Noah Falstein, Persuasive Games founder Ian Bogost, and games writer and designer Lee Sheldon.
The event organisers promise that the conference itself will have “no time-wasting, boring discussions”. Conference begins on June 12, with the serious games showcase occurring from June 13-14.
Registration still open. Here for more.
