No clear difference between 360 and PS3 versions of Crysis 2, says Crytek

No clear difference between 360 and PS3 versions of Crysis 2, says Crytek

E3'09: Both consoles will ‘perform to their limits’, though the PC edition will ‘outperform’ all

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has told Develop that there will be little discernable difference between the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of Crysis 2, though the PC version will push ahead of the pack.

Crytek recently revealed that the upcoming sequel to Crysis will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The announcement marked the first time the studio will develop for a console in its ten-year history, a new venture made possible by the flexibility of CryENGINE 3.

Many believe that the engine can push the PS3 and Xbox 360 to their limits, and thus, reveal the high-end differences in hardware power between each.

Yerli disagrees. In an interview with Develop, he said that “as for difference, between Consoles and PC I see a difference. The PC version will outscale and outperform the consoles. Between each console I believe the experience will finally be next-generation, but similar.”

Yerli added that his aim was not to try and showcase the differences in power between each console, but instead to deliver an acclaimed FPS to as broad an audience as possible.

Also in the interview Yerli states that over 150 staff are working on the game, which has been in development for over two years. He also said he expected the game wouldn’t take as long to produce than the original Crysis.

I cannot wait. I loved the first Crysis & Crysis: Warhead. My gaming rig thirsts to be tested by Crytek's new engine.

is really a good development team they used all the new techniques back in 2007 in Crysis and modified them on console. Yeah they sure will juice up PS3 and 360 but they will still be surpassed in future, I think they might have been already been surpassed by RAGE (id) which has huge open world with tremendous amount of textures and polygons details, and still it runs at 1080p @60 fps and DOOM 4 is gonna pack 3 times more horsepower than it.

CryENGINE 3 is essentially CryENGINE 2 that can work on many systems and in many guises.

Just take a look at the first Crysis, and you'll see how fantastic this is for developers!

how can they be using 100% of the PS3 - and yet it be identical to the 360???
360 can't get anywhere near games like killzone or uncharted??
it will be interesting to see if crysis2 will look as good as uncharted... let alone play as well!!

Why would anyone think that some PC developers, who are developing their first game on the PS3 would max it out, when Insomniac who are on their fourth PS3 game and only develop for the PS3 haven't?

The Xbox 360 could very well do Killzone 2 and Uncharted I reckon, sure it would have framerate issues but graphically the 360 is up there with the PS3.

Either way both are excellent machines for different media/online reasons not so much the games.
