French publisher picks up Action Pants in spite of economic trend

Ubisoft has acquired Vancouver-based developer Action Pants, bucking the trend that has recently seen a number of publishers drop studios.

In the wake of its acquisition of Southlogic, Ubisoft has continued to expand, and has revealed that the first Action Pants game will be a sports game exclusively for the Wii, reports Edge.

In a press statement, Ubisoft’s executive director of worldwide production studios, Christine Burgess-Quemard, said: “We have been looking closely at Vancouver for some time, as we wished to set up a presence in what is one of the industry's biggest talent pools.”

Action Pants was formed in 2006 by Simon Andrews, Nik Palmer and Omar Al-Khafaji, and boasts a headcount of 110.
