Carmack 'regrets' missing App Store launch

Carmack 'regrets' missing App Store launch

id chief still wants to make 'exclusive graphical tour de force', though

id Software is planning to develop an exclusive game for iPhone.

In an interview with Forbes magazine, the company's founder and technical director John Carmack said he regrets that scheduling conflicts prevented id from having an iPhone game ready in time for the App Store launch earlier this month.

However, he added: "We have a title we want to develop exclusively for iPhone... I'm not announcing anything specifically, but it would be a graphical tour de force."

Carmack goes on to wax lyrical about the power of the iPhone, which he says is akin to PlayStation 2 or the first generation Xbox. He also hints that there is potential for a massively multiplayer iPhone game.

id's mobile division has already released the likes of Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein for regular mobile phones, shifting about two million downloads in total.

Yeah Qucke, that combined first-person duck shooter. I remember it well.
