Latest of Develop's Heard about columns chats to EA DICE's audio team
We've just posted up the latest in our popular monthly Heard About columns by independent audio director John Broomhall - this month's instalment looks at the work done on EA DICE's upcoming Battlefield Bad Company.
In the piece Broomhall speaks with David Möllerstedt, head of audio, and audio director Stefan Strandberg to discover the lengths the DICE team went to for the new Battlefield's next-gen outing.
With the game built on a brand new engine, the two took the opportunity to "ensure a well-integrated sound functionality". This includes a soundtrack that mixes original orchestral content with music that plays on the radios of in-game vehicles, and a number of sound effects recorded from the Swedish army's own war exercises.

(Sry my bad english!) Karl-Magnus Troedsson is genious. He is god. I heard first time about BF BC 3.3 2008 and read everything about new engine Frostbite and pre-ordered it immediatly. Frostbite kicks so much ass, i have played video games 17years and Frostbite is the best thing ever in videogame history. I cant wait this game.
Im gonna do 1000gp no matter what. Im gonna play BF BC everyday, when i get this game it never comes out from my Xbox360 ;] seriously this game is number1 game.
4 years is a incredibly long time of making. Think about it some games comes out in few months and this take time 4YEARS. It tells everything how the game makers
want the greatest game of NextGen. This game will
be the best game for a long time. I like call of duty 4 much but seriously this gonna be so much better. I will buy LiveGold just because this game.
I have Xbox360 for 8months now and never buyed the Live Gold. But now im gonna buy it. 12month gold just because Battlefield Bad Company.
Karl-Magnus Troedsson i hope you read this:
You are so cool and you are the best.
Battlefield Bad Company my favorite game of all time!!!
i really don't know if you guys are the ones also responsible for producing BC's Sound Reproduction, but if you are than please iron out the glitches in the final PS3 version of the game or just pass on a word to whosoever is responsible.
thank you:)
Although he sound is great, I think it is way too over the top, i.e when your in a truck and hit a small fence the whole thing booms like t-rex in Jurassic Park with the biggest reverb i've ever heard, even bigger than Def Leppard's snare drum. Its very easy to hide things behind reverb!
The audio is quite glitchy also, sometimes when I respawn my guns audio cuts off for about 30secs!
On a game play note, look forward to other multiplayer options!!! Looks good and is a good enough game ot part my money for.
