Sony's SN Systems team reduces price of handheld development tools by 50 per cent
Sony has halved the cost of development tools for the PSP.
The firm's Bristol-based SN Systems, which produces development tools for studios around the world making games for Sony platforms, said the cost reduction is effective immediately.
Costs for all SN Systems PSP development tools including
full and rental ProDG for PSP, Tuner, Build Tools and ProView licenses ordered through the UK-based SN Systems office have been cut by 50 per cent.
Support fees have also been halved and the reduction in support fees will also apply to developers seeking to renew their annual support on existing PSP products.
Andy Beveridge, director of SN Systems, commented: "SN Systems development tools for PSP are well-established and mature, having been on sale since the end of 2004. Since then, the tools have grown extensively as a result of direct feedback from PSP game title developers. Significantly reducing the cost of the tools will help to ensure that PSP game title developers have everything they need to continue creating great titles. This price reduction, coupled with the recent addition of Tuner (performance optimizer) to ProDG for PSP, makes the core development tool a very attractive package."

Possibly. But it's also Sony admitting what we developers already know - developing for the competitors machines (or at least, buying the SDKs, etc.) is cheaper and easier. SCE have had a lot of work to do since Nintendo and Microsoft barelled back into their territory - after the price cut for the PS3 SN tools last year, this is a similar move.

To save some money is always great.
Glad to see they lowered the prices on those little things. They were way to over priced!
