Can Backbone take on Nintendo at their own game?

Eidos to publish studio's Monster Lab, once described as 'Pokemon meets Tim Burton', on DS and Wii later this year

Eidos has confirmed that it is publishing a new IP title from Backbone Vancouver, details of which originally emerged last August.

Monster Lab is a new RPG franchise for the Wii and DS, inviting players to create monsters which are then sent into battle with other players.

The game was first talked about at the Leipzig Game Convention last year, during which time the developers called it 'Pokemon meets Tim Burton'.

In the official announcement, both publisher and developer
have talked up the use of online - players can enter online matches and trade their created monsters with their friends.

Backbone Vancouver is part of the Foundation 9 network of studios.

With art style like that, the answer is NO. This game's visuals are pretty horrid.

Kids, if you're going to rip Nintendo off, at least copy what they are good at - clear character designs - rather than the concept of a franchise that has seen better days.
