Nintendo responds to third parties' concerns

'We believe the situation will change,' says Japanese giant

Nintendo has responded to worries that only first party titles are selling on the Wii, saying that it believes the situation is only temporary.

According to the company's third-quarter report meeting transcription, translated by Develop, the problem is simply one of the Wii still being a young system - and that, as such, Nintendo's internal teams currently have an significant advantage.

"When we develop new hardware at Nintendo, we do so as a collaboration between the hardware development teams and the software development teams. Our software sales percentage is currently high because our internal teams teams know the Wii's special characteristics best, and they started development quite a bit before the Wii's release. However, we believe that eventually that will change," said the firm.

"If you look at the data for our third quarter you'll see that, out of the 14 Wii titles that shipped over a million units, 11 of those were our titles. However, if you look at the 50 titles that shipped over a million units on DS, only 28 of those are ours.

"We identified the same thing in the DS' first period, and the situation continues to change little by little. For the Wii too, we believe that as time passes, the proportion of high-selling titles that come from our licensees will increase."

My warning to Wii third party developers is this is only the beginning of your doom. It won't get better. Just think about who your market is with the Wii. Casual gamers. Do you really think casual gamers will be there to support you? No they won't. They're casual gamers. They don't buy many games.

The wii is shaping up much like the DS. As much as fanboys try to say handhelds are different, in this respect they are not.

The DS is selling 3rd party software like crazy.......NOW

It didn't in the beginning because devs thought it was a gimmick.

Just like the Wii. They will figure it out and it will continue to do well. The third parties ignoring the Wii do so at their own financial peril.

Here is a better answer...stop porting old PS2 games and spend time to create original games. If I wanted PS2 games I would have bought a PS2.

The Wii first year software sales are at about 34 million, so people are buying software for it. That is more than the 360 sold in its first year by the way. Capcom, Ubisoft, EA, Majesco,Atlus, ect have all had good sales so far. Things will only bet better when they make better games.

Developers might consider what type of game they are making. If they keep throwing party game **** on the shelves it isnt going to move. Try making higher quality titles more mature people would enjoy, instead of this sad junk they are producing.

The Key to making a good Wii game are as follows...

1. The Wiimote is what makes the Wii Unique. If the developers find new and interesting ways to use it instead of just waggle control. This will get people talking about the game and the word will spread about how unique a game it is. This is what Zack & Wiki did for the console but you may say ohh well Zack & Wiki didn't sell well at all..... Well that leads me to my 2nd point

2.Now Zack & Wiki didn't sell too well and everyone wonders why? Well it's pretty obvious to me that it was a lack of Advertising. I mean I saw Advertising in Nintendo Power Magazine & heard about the game from several people yet it ddidn't communicate at all the many uses of the Wiimote in the game. I finally decided to look it up on Gametrailers.com and saw what it had to offer and realized it was worth the purchase. I believe that if they would have shown some of the unique Wiimote controls as an advertisment in a TV commercial it would have done much better espically with all the casual players out there.

Now one other thing would have made a huge difference in the way the game sold and that is of course a DEMO. Now as of right now if you want a demo on the Wii you have to put it on a seperate disk and give it away. Now of course it would help if Nintendo created a Wii Demo Channel but at this point that isn't available to the developers.

So in conclusion for developers to sell there games focus on making the controls unique and Advertise the hell out of the Uniqueness of your game. You shouldn't be too concerned with the graphics because it is kinda like a PS2 which most have been working on for like 7+ years so you should be able to get the performance out of the Wii. Just do the Math....

Unique Controls + Good Advertising about the Controls = GOOD SELLING WII GAME
