Geoff Iddison takes over from Constant Tedder
Jagex has a new CEO, with former PayPal CEO Geoff Iddison taking the boss' chair.
He takes over from Former CEO Constant Tedder, who will remain on the board of directors. Iddison led eBay-owned PayPal from August 2003 and oversaw its global expansion.
Jagex develops and manages RuneScape, a youth-oriented browser based MMO which the studio says has over six million regular players globally, and has over 400 employees.
“I am very excited about joining Jagex. The company has built an amazing international playing community through the RuneScape game. The technology used to distribute the game and the incredible depth offered to anyone playing RuneScape makes Jagex a very different gaming company,” said Iddison.
“Jagex's mantra is to offer fun, meticulously written and deep storyline-driven online games, at a price which offers unmatched value for money. This will continue to be the basis of the future strategy for the company.”
Andrew Gower, founder and head of game development, added: “I am delighted that Geoff has joined us. His track record in e-commerce will definitely help us achieve our next level of goals.
“I, like the rest of Jagex, am excited about how Geoff will lead the business. There are many exciting projects in the pipeline and we can't wait to further improve our service and the games we offer.”
I got a 3 month from paypal and suppose to pay 60 negative days off. Then my message was cleared and they said jagex got the message and payment. Now when i go on, it wont let me sign on to my account. it says " Your account is disabled" cause the negative days are not payed yet so make my payment right and fix it. Thankyou
He really must have decided to change some things and really screwed it up. Me my wife and 3 sons all played runescape until the beginning of December when, fed up with aall the screwed up changes they made, we began jumping ship for Guild Wars. Jagex lost 5 paid accounts from my family and reading their forums many others.
My family also quit over the unbalanced trade update. Very unfair & irrational lies posted by jagex. If this update was about RWT they would have implemented other changes.
Also, they lied about adding a drop share split & a lending system. Those things were just lies to try to keep people from quiting. They will never happen.
Wow Jagex just came out with a great change to the game, eremoving Customer Support, wasnt enough most of the time it was just an automated response, now consumers are left with nothing at all. Obviously they dont know how to take lessons from real games liek World of Warcraft which makes players feel like real human beings. Bye Bye Jagex, i'm done
If you play RuneScape, you'll know that one of the things they've done is introduce a new Skill - 'Summoning'.
If you've tryed this new Skill, you'll know that's it's ridiculasly expancive, and will take years to get to a respectable level.
People have said this is to get new members after the new update, in which RuneScape lost a lot of players (although no statistics are published, but this is known due to the comments made by J-Mods in RuneScape's own Forums).
Personally, the game is getting boring, and they soon might be seeing the back of me.
Jagex continues to let people hack accounts. It does not matter if you pay with your credit card! It does not matter if you know your last password, the MODS will let people change/reset your password should any of your old information be compromised. You would think, coming from PayPal Geoff Iddison would know a better solution to protect the young players. I have cancelled five accounts because your can't get an intelligent person on the other end (Runescape Mods) to do anything but repeat what can be read online. Why can't they send an Email like most banks, PayPal and eBay do to verify that you requested the change??? Once information has been confirmed to be compromised, why can't they simple eliminate that information from being used by third parties again. Children put years of work into these accounts only to have them stolen and Jagex does NOTHING to help you. My guess is once Geoff sees the erosion of his members and his income, he will begin to take people like me seriously or at least empower his employees to think and act when things like this arise. World of Warcraft, while over my son and daughter head at this point at least takes security serious and protects our accounts.
