2008 news review of the year

2008 has been a tumultuous year for the development industry, and Develop has put together a guide to all the most important stories from the past 12 months.

While there were no new hardware launches, the iPhone and iPod touch established their position as mobile devices that could change the landscape of the industry and bring back to prominence the creative freedom of self-publishing, while elsewhere there were move to embrace web 2.0.

The year was largely dominated by news of the ongoing economic downtown, which lead to studio closures, while a lack of government support for developers in the UK brough more doom and gloom.

There was good news though, with plenty of acquisitions, deals and new releases from developers and tool and service providers, and casual gaming’s snowballing popularity.
