My client are an award winning development studio based in the Midlands. They have recently been behind the development of a number of innovative console titles and are now looking to expand their team for a raft of exciting new projects.

They are now looking for a Lead Gameplay Programmer to join their team.

Overview of the job:

The Lead Gameplay Programmer role involves managing a team and requires outstanding technical knowledge of the software development process for prototyping, developing, and debugging of release quality gameplay code. This role will report to the studio Technical Director.

Role Responsibilities:

? Prototyping and implementing game mechanics & control schemes
? Writing core gameplay systems and logic components
? Managing a small team of programmers ? you will work with your team to help to define and plan the work required and work alongside the production team to schedule the work for the gameplay team.
? Lead and motivate your team to ensure each individual?s tasks and group tasks are delivered on time, and to a high standard
? Determining technical solutions to creative design requirements
? Active identification of problem areas of code, review and discussion of potential solutions.
? Propose to senior management, ways that your team (and the whole programming team) can improve their development process to improve the programming and technical standards.
? Writing and editing game TDD (Technical Design Document) documentation
? Bug Database management ? assigning bugs to your team, and ensuring they are being fixed in a timely & robust manner
? Assist the Technical Director with Recruitment, being involved in interviewing potential members of the Gameplay team
? Line Management of your team, performance management and Appraisals ? you will be responsible for getting the most out of your team, and helping them to grow.

Experience and Skills required:

? At least 7 years C++ experience in the games industry
? At least 5 shipped console titles
? Positive and outgoing personality
? Experience in a Lead Gameplay Programmer role
? Experience of prototyping & implementing game mechanics
? Experience of delivering fun, high-quality core gameplay code
? Good knowledge of modern game engines and graphical techniques
? Good technical architecture and implementation skills
? Expertise in delivering TRC compliant code
? Experience of scheduling programming teams
? Experience on all current generation consoles
? Excellent organisational abilities
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills
? A passion for games
