Apply now for the EGX Student Game Jam

EGX is calling on student teams to participate in its upcoming student game jam.

The EGX Game Jam will run during the expo in October, finishing at the last developer session of the day on Sunday. Teams will get the opportunity to present what they have been working on to the EGX crowd, and be “encouraged to work on their games further, for the opportunity of presenting it at EGX 2020”.

Games industry professionals and technical mentors will be available to guide contributors. As well as meeting “game industry superstars”, the organisers purport participating in the jam will also be “a great opportunity to meet more people within the industry and will help [students] build [their] professional network”.

At the end of the jam – which is running from Friday until Sunday during the event – contributors will be invited to give a short presentation about what they made and why.

“Each team will work with a studio partner who will help guide them through the game jam process,” EGX said via a press statement. “We will also have an awesome keynote speaker to get everyone inspired, and technical mentors on standby to help teams through those tricky problems. Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided throughout the weekend.”

To get involved, EGX encourages submissions from University teams of 4-6 people across a range of disciplines, including artists, sound designers, programmers, game designers, planners and managers. Applications close on September 15th at 11.59pm UK time, with successful candidates expected to be notified by September 18th.

Gamer Network has confirmed that EGX, the UK gaming expo, will be returning to London, UK, on October 17th – 20th, 2019. Despite holding the event in the more central location of Birmingham for the last four years, the team says they have “listened to [their] fans” and are “bringing the event back home” to the capital. This will be the first time the event will head to the docklands-based ExCel, but Gamer Network’s parent company ReedPOP – which also owns the PAX events in the US and Australia – has used the venue a number of times for its sister expo event, MCM.
