Those expecting Crytek to mirror Epic in terms of version numbering might have been surprised to see CryENGINE hit version three so quickly, but maybe it’s important to be on an even playing field with your punchiest competitor.
The main addition to v3 is the long sought after console support – the formerly PC-only engine is now fully supported on Xbox 360 and PS3, with the developer at pains to point out that it’s worked the graphics, physics, AI, networking and sound subsystems to make them ready for the massively many-core architectures likely to find themselves in the next generation of consoles.
Of course, this is CryENGINE, so what you really care about is the visuals. Crytek has seen fit to add a huge number of high-end graphical features to the engine, including a real-time dynamic global illumination solution fully optimsed for current-generation machines. There’s also a new real-time soft particle system, which can be affected by object collisions, forces such as wind and gravity, and lighting and shadows; volumetric light beams; screen-space ambient occlusion support, a unique deferred shading solution and a high-level platform-agnostic shader scripting technology.
The ‘What You See is What You Play’ Sandbox editor – which now deploys live to target consoles, giving instant feedback to scene changes – has also had its functionality bolstered, with a new automatic vegetation placement ruleset that’ll plant your foliage based on slope, surface altitude and desired density. There’s also dedicated road and river builders, a specialised vehicle editor, a facial animation tool, plus automatic navmesh generation unified for inside and outside spaces coupled with the engine’s dynamic pathfinding system. And, as if that wasn’t enough, there’s a fully featured audio offering, AI and game scripting by Lua or the graphical Flow-Graph system, an integrated physics engine and a full suite of performance analysis tools.

IMHO CryEngine3 is the best engine! And it's much more better, than gamebryo, which is on the 2nd place, WTF?!

Well, this is true in general for any system of contextual advertising, not just for Adsense. Although the selection is really useful and fairly complete.
Yeah.. great engine if you want a shooter.. have something else in mind? not so great.
Thanks for the info - the development behind the game is a totally cool story. It's all about choosing the right environment for the project you have in mind, and this is superior for shooters as another poster said.

You have to be kidding me. The CryEngine3 and 2 are one of the poorest and annoying Engines I have ever worked with. I Spent over 6 months as a programmer developing a multiplayer space shooter on this Engine and it has given me nothing but headaches. Cryengine 3 is nothing more than a poor update to the Cryengine 2. There is buggy core code wich is impossible to debug due to the core of the engine being tucked away in .dll´s. And the support is horrible, there is basicly no community for support and the crydocs are the shittiest docs ive layed my eyes on - or better yet, there is practicly no documentation for programmers. Apart from the crappy experience ive had with this engine as a programmer, the artists and designers in my team have had a very hard time due to buggy exporter tools and lack of proper documentation.
Even the paid support sucks.
So that much said, if your planning on using he CryEngine for a project, then get ready for a long painful headache. At least this is my experience with the CryEngine 3.

Though Unreal is the strongest game engine today, it is my belief that Cryengine3 is the future. This is a very young engine with already a very strong development platform.

None of the games stated above were created on this engine, those were all previous engines to CryENGINE 3. Aion was on CryENGINE and every Crysis prior to Crysis 2 was created on CryENGINE 2.
